    Events Leading to the Fall of the Wall

    The first step to the fall of the Berlin Wall was when Hungary opened its borders to Western Europe. This was significant because the movement between communist countries was allowed freely. This gave East Berliners access to Western Europe and West Berlin. Also every Monday there were protests in the East German city of Leipzig. These protests had very large numbers and pressured the government into many reforms.
